The Bachelor Life

In university one of my class assignments was to write an art song in a foreign language. Being me, I wrote mine in Vulcan because the assignment didn’t dictate that it had to be a terrestrial language. It was called something like Nash-veh va-tukh t’du ri ku-ba, nam-tor va-tukh ek’shat, or “I cannot love you for it is not logical.” Alas, that one appears to have been lost after a move. Another assignment was to write an English art song, which I do have. I was going for something in the vein of Gilbert and Sullivan here. Since the professor was a bachelor, I was hoping to score some brownie points with the theme of my art songs, you see. Here I’ve reworked the song for general consumption. Enjoy! 🔊 Listen to it here. 💾 Download it here. I wake when I please at a quarter to ten, Unbothered by squawking or domestic hen! The minister was preaching a series of sermons on the Psalms. I was inspired to write one of my own, so I wrote this in the spirit of Psalm 148. I did try to slow it down a little, but the song loses the exuberance I was looking for when not up to tempo, so I just gave up on having our church sing it. If you want to give it a go,  I’ve included the sheet music for download here. As for why I wrote it? Do we really need a particular reason to sing to the Lord? 🔊 Listen online here. 💾 Download here. Sing to the Lord! Give Him honor and praise! Let our hearts gladly raise Psalms of joy evermore! Sing to the Lord! Lift His name up on high! Let the vaults of the sky ring with song! Alleluia! Alleluia! O sing we unto the Lord! Alleluia! Alleluia! O sing we unto the Lord! Sing to the Lord! Raise to Heaven your voice! Cla...
