Goin' Home to Mississippi

I wrote this silly little song for the band to noodle around on while performing. In this one, everybody gets a solo! It's just cool that I happen to be in Jackson, MS when this posts. No relation to my cutie Caledonia, though. ๐Ÿ”Š Listen online here. ๐Ÿ’พ Download it here.   I’m going home to Oxford Mississippi, I’m going home. The Bachelor Life

In university one of my class assignments was to write an art song in a foreign language. Being me, I wrote mine in Vulcan because the assignment didn’t dictate that it had to be a terrestrial language. It was called something like Nash-veh va-tukh t’du ri ku-ba, nam-tor va-tukh ek’shat, or “I cannot love you for it is not logical.” Alas, that one appears to have been lost after a move. Another assignment was to write an English art song, which I do have. I was going for something in the vein of Gilbert and Sullivan here. Since the professor was a bachelor, I was hoping to score some brownie points with the theme of my art songs, you see. Here I’ve reworked the song for general consumption. Enjoy! ๐Ÿ”Š Listen to it here. ๐Ÿ’พ Download it here. I wake when I please at a quarter to ten, Unbothered by squawking or domestic hen! No spousal dictates on the drape of the drapes, No sharing my muffins, my cream, or my crepes. I wander the parlor in mismatched attire, And poke quite i...

Adieu, Au Revoir, ร€ Demain

What a silly little song. I have no idea why I wrote this. I was in France. Or maybe Belgium, or Switzerland, or Luxembourg… one of those francophonic countries. I do love accordion, though. The world would be happier if we had more accordion. 🔊 Hear the original with accordion 💾 Download the original You may prefer the big band version. I think I’ll have it played at my funeral, along with Wayne Newton’s Danke Schoen. 🔊 Hear the big band version 💾 Download the big band version   Adieu. Au revoir. ร€ demain. That is French — oh so French — for “goodbye.” Adieu. Au revoir. ร€ demain. 'Til tomorrow’s sun rises in the sky. Adieu. Au revoir. ร€ demain. Until we meet again. So so long, mon ami! Goodbye, ma chรฉrie! Adieu. Au revoir. ร€ demain. Adieu. Au revoir. ร€ demain. Words & Music © Copyright 1987 Robert Ritter
